





Potting Waterproof LED Strip Lights
Potting waterproof LED strip lights utilize a liquid encapsulation process to achieve robust environmental protection. A transparent polymer compound (typically epoxy or silicone gel) is uniformly poured and cured over the entire surface of the flexible PCB (FPCB) and its mounted SMD LEDs and resistors.
This method creates a fully sealed, solid, and smooth protective layer that completely isolates the electronic components from the external environment. The strip offers excellent waterproof, dustproof, corrosion resistance, and insulation properties, commonly rated at IP65, IP66, or IP67.
Key Features:
· Complete Encapsulation: Seals every component, preventing moisture ingress, oxidation, and short circuits. It also provides outstanding resistance to UV exposure and some chemicals.
· High Adhesion & Protection: The cured compound firmly bonds to the FPCB, offering good vibration resistance and physical protection against minor impacts or abrasion.
· Stable Light Output: The transparent gel minimizes light loss and helps diffuse light evenly, reducing glare and creating a uniform, consistent beam.
· Wide Applicability: The simple, cost-effective process is suitable for a variety of standard-density LED strips.
Considerations:
· Heat Dissipation: The potting compound acts as an insulator, which can slightly impede heat transfer from the LEDs compared to hollow extrusion designs. This is a key factor for high-power applications.
· Flexibility: Once cured, the strip becomes more rigid. While still flexible for basic installations, it is not suitable for highly dynamic bending or frequent movement.
